Agreed, LOL, how long did it take you to read this whole discussion ?? Personally, i deal with customers on a daily basis in a computer shop, 99% of them use IE. Thats life i guess. The other 1% use firefox or opera. BUT, i also deal with trade buyers, and they virtually ALL use firefox personally . . . . But after reading this whole thing, i am tempted to offer retail customers a choice, the only problem being support. we have enough to cope with when they are all on IE (requesting them to press the "refresh button" endlessly.) Asking all our staff to quickly learn another couple of browsers so they can support them seems a bit much. Or am i contributing to the browser problem?
FWIW, I converted to FireFox about a year ago, and find it works LOADS better for me overall than IE. Slower to load initially - yes, but so what? I love its functionality, and would never consider swapping back. .
okay, you should maybe try IE7 if you haven't tried IE for about a year, it has tabs now. How are bookmarks improved over IE in your opinion?
Why? This kind of highlights a global "must-get" mentality despite being content with what you've got. I have no wish to change browser, as Ff does for me nicely. IMO, it's a common automatic response but not necessarily with any foundation. Export/Import, management, toolbar functionality. .
I thought this was kind of the point here, to discuss better options. Why did you feel the need to change a year ago if you were content with what you had? If you had IE3 and went over to NN3 would you never change again? If you were using IE5 would you change to IE6? hhmmm Export/Import = i dont see any significant difference - please explain further. Management = i dont see any serious improvements - please explain further. toolbar functionality = looks nicer but as the 2 above - please explain further. i need to go check the above 3 out in more detail to give you a laymans opinion but will get back to you on that.
Saleen S7-R - Firefox Racing I haven't read all of this topic in detail, but thought you might like to see a GTR Saleen S7-R paint job I did a while back. You can see that the rear wing quite clearly says 'Safer, Faster, Better.' So that settles it. On a more serious note, how anyone can read this (better yet experience some of that whilst creating web pages) and seriously suggest IE is a half-decent browser is beyond me. When you consider the money and resources Microsoft has available the current state of their browser is a joke. But not a funny one; I recently spent approximately two to three days on pinning down and solving IE rendering bugs for one site.
Im with impel on that, you either code the right way, and then mess it up to work with IE, or mess it up in the first place and hope it looks ok in the standards compliant browsers. IE7 is in Beta stage, therefore i would not reccomend it to anyone not keen on attempting to find its bugs, which it has, believe me. On a personal note, im not too keen on IE7, all its done is add a few features that firefox has had for ages, and got rid of some toolbars. Zooming pages serves little purpose for me, as if i cant read it i increase the text size, and if its so small it needs zooming on a 1280 x 800 resolution, then the designers need a slap. The only other thing is showing all your tabs on one page, which is cool for about 2 minutes. I re-itterate here this is my opinion of IE7 not being that good ( considering the time since the last one, and the money, and the people ) and i provide no facts to prove my point, just my wonderful opionionated opinions
Agreed, from a CSS coders point of view it is real a pain in the botty, although its not a security or user related issue really.
The users remain blissfully unaware of all the blood sweated by developers to get the page looking nice... Maybe they don't really care that much if a bit of margin is 5 or 10 pixels (subliminally perhaps)
