Adding php_value upload_max_filesize in .htaccess doesn't work?

I would like to increase the max upload size from 2MB to 200MB. As I understand it, changing the php.ini in my server space will not work as it is shared with other users? Also, 'PHP File Navigator' doesn't recognise the change there anyway.

Thus, I went to add the following into my .htaccess file.

    Code:
    php_value file_uploads 1
    php_value upload_max_filesize 200M
This produced the following error when I went back to refresh the 'PHP File Navigator' page:

Any idea how to increase the file upload size?

    Hi,

You need to put a php.ini file at the root of your domain and change its values. I'm not sure you'll be able to set the upload filesize to 200 MB though.

Why would you not be able to set the upload filesize to 200MB? I've done this, and yet PHP File Navigator reports the limit is set at 2MB. However, the phpinfo.php reports the correct file size limit of 200MB??
